Culture & Coast .
Markets, wartime tunnels, and the wild southern coast — Okinawa's living history in one unhurried afternoon.
A compact, culture-rich circuit through Naha's arcades and markets, into the solemn wartime tunnels beneath the city, and out along the southern coast to a sacred coastal waterfall. Unhurried pacing, thoughtful storytelling, and plenty of photo-worthy stops.

The day.
- 10:00
Market arcades stroll
Wander covered arcades and bustling fresh markets — fish counters, meats, seasonal produce. Browse, soak up everyday island life, and if you wish, pick a seafood dish to be cooked on the spot for a true taste of Okinawa (pay-as-you-go).
- 12:00
Wartime tunnels & memorial
Step into the solemn underground corridors that illuminate Okinawa's wartime past. As you move through exhibits and tunnels, you'll learn about the resilience of the islands and the hardships endured during the Second World War.
- 13:30
Coastal waterfall & tide pools
Follow the southern shoreline to a historic waterfall and rugged tide pools. Pause for sweeping ocean views from a cliff, walk the cliff path, and learn why this spot is deeply respected by local communities. Non-slip boots provided for the final section.
- 15:30
Return & drop-off
Conclude the day with a comfortable private transfer back to the meeting point in central Naha.
The morning starts in the covered arcades — vendors calling, fish glistening on ice, produce piled in baskets that change with the season. Your guide knows the stalls and the people running them, which is the difference between browsing as a tourist and being walked into a market the way a local would.
Then it goes underground. The WWII tunnels beneath Naha are quiet places, and they should be. A short walk that carries weight. From there, the coast opens out — coral cliffs, tide pools, and a waterfall that drops straight into the sea. The kind of place locals know about but visitors rarely find.

Read all reviewsCulture & Coast half day tour with. I was visiting from Australia and my tour guide was Aya. Visited market arcade stroll. Fresh fish and meat markets. Got to enjoy selecting a fish and how u like it cooked. Underground wartime tunnels & Memorial. South coast historic waterfall and tide pool. It was an amazing tour. Aya was awaresome with information about each place we visited. If your in Okinawa and want to explore and also visit the other islands around Okinawa highly recommend. I will be heading back to okinawa next year and will be booking with this tour again. 😀
Thank you for a great time! I did the 2 day tour with day one being the Culture & Coast Half-Day (City Center → South Coast) and day two being the Half-Day Ocean Cave Exploration. It was very flexible and accomodating around my schedule. I really enjoyed the in depth explanations and experiencing all the spots we visited as well as the tours being filled with fun and laughter. I learned a lot about Okinawa, the culture, stories about the past and people of Okinawa, and was also able about to try a bunch of different food as well as visit local spots. It felt like a true local experience with hidden gems provided by friends. Recommendations for other things to do or places to visit were provided too. There was also some sick film photos taken during the tours. I recommend anyone seeing this to visit Okinawa and especially to book with @thingstodoin.jp to enhance their experience in Okinawa! I’m excited for the next time I visit Okinawa! Would book a different tour in the future!
The Culture & Coast tour with Aya and Yumi was fantastic! I really appreciated their focus on the experience, along with being so attentive and willing to explain and teach us at every step. It was so informative, I feel like I gained a whole new appreciation for Okinawa and the history of this great island. The pair were also working so well together professionally when they passed on knowledge, and they even learned from each other at times. It amazed me how open they were. There is so much knowledge to Okinawa. Other tours I've been a part of tend to dip into snapshots and photos at every turn and feel very detached from the experience, but this one will be memorable because of the attention and focus on our experience, whether at the fish market, the bunker, or the coast. I admit, I had many many questions, but they were patient and shared what they could openly, too!
