Izena Island Experience

2 Days, 1 Nights

Two days is all it takes to reach one of Okinawa's best kept secrets. This route heads straight to Izena — a small, remote island where foreign visitors are a rarity, the ocean is extraordinary, and a local islander will sit you down and feed you like a guest worth impressing.

We handle the logistics. You just show up ready.

Day 1 — Izena Island: Off-grid

The group transfers to the ferry port and crosses the lush open sea to Izena island — far enough from the tourist trail that you will almost certainly be the only foreign faces on the island. Quiet roads, clear lagoons, and locals who are genuinely glad you made the trip.

The day is spent out on the water with a local captain. Fishing rods, fresh bait, and the unhurried rhythm of a proper boat day — eat sashimi on board while the island sits on the horizon, and drop into the reef for a snorkel. Untouched reef, great chance of spotting sea turtles, pure ocean, start to finish.

Back on shore, a multi-course feast prepared by a local islander awaits — fresh fish, produce from the island, and flavours that don't exist anywhere else. Make friends with locals and exchange cultures in a night you’ll never forget.

Stay: Traditional Okinawan house — tatami floors, wooden beams, island stars.

Optional (pay-as-you-go): Private accommodation / room

Day 2 — Izena to Mainland: Life of a local

The final morning earns its send-off. It begins with a hike up to an ancient hilltop — a full 360-degree panorama of the island and the surrounding sea, worth every step of the climb.

From there, the group heads into the fields to harvest sugarcane and press it on the spot — there is nothing quite like the taste of it straight from the source. Next, a guided walk through the farm where umi budo sea grapes are grown — through the warehouse, learning how it all works, tasting as you go.

Lunch is at a local soba house before the afternoon ferry carries the group back to the mainland. On the way south, a stop for fresh acerola — the Okinawan cherry renowned for its vitamin C — and one final lookout before the journey home.

Optional (pay-as-you-go, weather/availability): Second half-day charter before the ferry — one last session on the reef.
