6 Days, 5 Nights

Most visitors see the surface of Okinawa. This journey goes deeper — through the WWII tunnels beneath Naha, across the jewel-blue reefs of the Kerama Islands, into the jungle interior, and out to Izena, a remote island where fishing boats outnumber tourists and locals cook for you like you're family.

Every day is shaped around choice. Each morning you know what the plan holds; each afternoon you decide how deep you want to go. We handle the logistics, the bookings, and the local knowledge — you bring curiosity and good company.

Day 1 — Naha: Markets, Tunnels & the Waterfront

Begin in the heart of Naha. Your guide leads you through covered arcades buzzing with vendors, into the public fish market where the morning's catch is still gleaming, and then underground — into the network of WWII tunnels that wind silently beneath the city. It is a short walk that carries considerable weight.

The afternoon opens up along the southern coastline, where coral cliffs drop into turquoise water and the horizon feels wide and unhurried. Before dinner, there is time to settle into the hostel and find your feet.

The evening belongs to you — grab a list of favorite hole-in-the-wall izakayas from your guide and enjoy dinner at your own pace. Cold highballs, sizzling yakitori, local awamori, and the easy rhythm of an Okinawan night. A great end to an amazing first day.

Stay: Central Naha capsule hostel — social, clean, and well located. Upgrade to a twin private room possible.

Day 2 — Tokashiki, Kerama Islands: Reefs & Slow Days

A morning ferry carries the group across glass-clear water to Tokashiki, one of the jewels of the Kerama archipelago — a chain of islands renowned for their coral gardens, sea turtle populations, and exceptional water clarity. Bags go down, and the day opens up.

Those who want to move can move: there are boats heading out to reef points, SUP and snorkel sessions in calm lagoons, and bikes to rent for a loop between beaches and viewpoints. Those who want stillness will find it — the local bus runs, the coves are quiet, and a long swim followed by a nap in the shade is a perfectly valid plan.

Dinner together at a casual island spot, then an early night before tomorrow's ferry.

Stay: Tokashiki island hotel — comfortable, beach-close, and unhurried.

Optional (pay-as-you-go): Boat snorkel tour · SUP + snorkel combo · Island bicycle rental · Private room

Day 3 — Zamami Island, then Onnason: Cobalt Water & a Base Worth Coming Back To

A short hop across to Zamami, another Kerama island with a distinct character — cobalt bays, a scattering of lanes blooming with hibiscus, and one of Okinawa's most celebrated snorkelling reefs. Luggage is stored, and the morning is yours to roam.

Mid-afternoon, the group ferries back to the main island and drives north to Onnason — a quiet coastal village tucked between forested hills and the East China Sea. Known for its unhurried pace and some of Okinawa's most beautiful stretches of shoreline, it is a good place to exhale.

Tonight you check into the beachfront hotel that will be your base for the next three nights. Breakfast buffet is included each morning — dinner at the hotel is available and worth considering, but entirely up to you.

Stay: Onnason beachfront hotel — three nights, breakfast buffet included. Dinner at the hotel available (pay-as-you-go).

Optional (pay-as-you-go): Glass-bottom boat · E-bike rental · Boat snorkel tour · Private room

Day 4 — Northern Coast: Waterfall, Fukugi Trees & Retro Dinner

Head north into the lush interior. A short jungle trail leads to a hidden waterfall — the kind of place that rewards the small effort of getting there with cold mist, vivid green, and no crowds.

Lunch is seasonal: in summer, you eat beside the stream at the waterfall and stay in the water as long as you like. In winter, the group moves to a soba house tucked into the forest — cosy, quiet, and exactly right for the season.

The afternoon takes the group to a stretch of coast where an ancient Ryukyuan village sits beneath an archway of fukugi trees. Hire bikes or walk the lanes — it is all shade, sea breeze, and the kind of quiet that is hard to find.

Dinner is an Okinawan classic: a retro drive-in beloved by locals for decades, serving shrimp burgers, chowder, and crispy things to eat while watching the water.

Stay: Onnason beachfront hotel — final night here, breakfast buffet included.

Optional (pay-as-you-go): Churaumi Aquarium · Onsen / spa · Caving half day experience · Full day Jungle trek with waterfall climbing

Day 5 — Izena Island: Off the Map

A ferry to Izena — a small island far enough from the tourist trail that you will likely be the only foreign visitors on it. Quiet lanes, clear lagoons, scooters zipping past, and locals who smile because they are genuinely pleased to see you.

The morning is spent out on the water with a local captain: fishing rods, a bucket of bait, and the easy rhythm of a boat day. Learn to fillet your catch, eat fresh sashimi on board, and drop into the reef for a snorkel. Pure ocean.

Back on shore, a multi-course island feast laid on by a local islander — fresh fish, island produce, and flavours you will not find anywhere else. Included in the package.

Stay: Traditional Okinawan house — tatami floors, wooden beams, island stars.

Optional (pay-as-you-go): Private accommodation/room

Day 6 — Izena to Mainland: Live like a local for the day

The final morning has a proper send-off. Start with a hike up to an ancient hilltop viewpoint — a 360-degree sweep of the whole island, ocean in every direction, worth every step.

From there, head into the fields to harvest sugarcane like the locals and press it on site — a taste of something genuinely fresh that you won't find in a shop.

Next, a guided tour of the farm where umi budo sea grapes are cultivated — through the warehouse, learning the process, tasting along the way.

Lunch is at a local soba house before the afternoon ferry carries the group back to the mainland. On the way south, a stop for fresh acerola — the big Okinawan cherry famous for its vitamin C — and one final lookout before the group returns to base and says goodbye.

Optional (pay-as-you-go, weather/availability): Second half-day charter before the ferry — last reef time and fishing.
